Synopsis
Helmed by Marco Proserpio, director of the acclaimed documentary “The Man Who Stole Banksy” which premiered in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival 2018, , “Une Partie de Campagne” is a short film to present the new SS 2019 collection by fashion designer Gilberto Calzolari, winner of the Franca Sozzani Green Carpet Challenge Award for Best Emerging Designer 2018.
Inspired by Jean Renoir’s “Une partie de campagne” – a bittersweet love story between a young Parisian woman from a bourgeois family and a down-to-earth boater she met during a picnic in the countryside – Gilberto Calzolari wanted to pay homage to his own Italian countryside. Set among cornfields, the SS 2019 collection portrays a woman of our time – at once strong and romantic, chic and ironic, who delves deep into Nature in search of her inner self. The volumes and fabrics of her wardrobe, areclean and classy, at once girly and sophisticated, but reinvented with a twist, with country, punk and rockabilly touches, culminating with the elegant dress that won the Green Carpet Award 2018, a surprising combination of poor and rich materials: on one hand the vegetable fibres of 100% recycled jute bags coming from the Brazilian coffee plantations, and on the other hand, the mineral world of precious Swarovski crystals.

Une Partie de Campagne - The collection
“Gilberto’s work was beautifully executed and could have been a great piece in any material,” Natalie Kingham, fashion and buying director at Matchesfashion.com, told Vogue of his hessian fabrics that were also embellished with Swarovski’s lead-free Advanced Elements crystals. “The story behind it added to its charm and beauty.”
